I became aware of the Czech fashion designer Jiri Kalfar through Instagram His pink oversize suit catched my eye immediately and I absolutely wanted to wear it myself. On his homepage I discovered extraordinary pieces that take up numerous influcences. Thus I decided to present three great outfits by Jir Kalfar in a fashion editorial.
Game with the sexes
Jiri Kalfar himself worked as a model and dancer for a long time and benefits as a fashion designer from his understanding of the human body and its movements. His collections for men and women are detemined by flowing silhouettes, clean lines with an oversize look and exciting diversity. Powerful personalities from history, especially strong women like Jeanne d’Arc, are his source of inspiration. In the clothing items elements in the style of uniforms can be found such as golden buttons and epaulettes and within the modern cuts there are elements from folklore, boho style and historic symbolism. This results in timeless, classically elegant clothing items with a penchant for theatricality. Within his collection for men Jiri Kalfar often blurs the traditional borders of masculinity and plays with the identity of the sexes. His fashion had already been mentioned in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar magazine and L’Officiel called him an important, ambitious designer.
